Syed Muaz Shah has an LLB degree from the University of London and has over 7+ years of PQE. He is a legal academic and consultant currently associated with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD). As an academic served as the Director of the Center for Human Rights at Ziauddin University where he spearheaded initiatives in advocacy, policy dialogue and stakeholder contributions to important discussion around Business & Human Rights framework development with UNDP.

Additionally, he is an Ambassador of the Centre for Labour Research (CLR) which published the Islamic Labour Code, a seminal work connecting ILO legal framework in the context of Islamic law, bridging an important divide.

At ICCD, he is the Halal Committee coordinator, focusing primarily on Halal Ethics creating a more comprehensive model of halal to include ESG guidelines - particularly around labour and environment. In this association he works closely with Al-Baraka Forum and Spectreco on developing a new Islamic ESG Index.

He recently presented a paper at the 3rd European Halal Congress on "Halal Ethics in Business" where he spoke about the importance of navigating this increased ESG regulatory space in light of Islamic ethics of business to maintain trade between OIC countries and EU in particular. He also is a member of the Employer's Federation of Pakistan's (EFP's) Committee on Decent Work and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (FPRW).

Currently, he is a candidate in the LLM in International Law program at the Geneva Graduate Insitute (IHEID).
